The agora was set apart for people to share thoughts on philosophy, science, literature, art, and politics. It was without labels. It was not defined by one discipline. It was a place, not a people.
Agora MMXXV seeks to promote a unifying culture, spark intellectual curiosity, and encourage compassion in an ever-changing, ever-dividing world. It is designed not to satisfy one need, but many. It fulfills multiple purposes without definitive labels. There are many institutions that fulfill the needs of society, but none that encourage unity, tolerance, and growth. Libraries are a great resource for knowledge, but they do not facilitate the necessary conversations regarding that knowledge. Universities foster knowledge and growth, but with a high price tag and limited perspectives. The modern definition of social media caters to radical political ideals and is built on addictive strategies to promote prolonged use.
It is time that we created a space, both online and in real life, for people to share thoughts and ideas that are independent of venture capitalists, stockholders, self-interest groups, and on and on. Many individuals want to live in harmony with each other and yet they do not have a space that fulfills their need for understanding and community.
Agora MMXXV is not a people. It is a space. A space designed for those who want to grow both intellectually and socially. For those who are not afraid of challenging their beliefs and want to expand their horizons. It is time to flip the script. In an unreliable world, we need to create reliability. The agora was that place for the Ancient Greeks. It is time that we begin to provide the same for the modern era.
